Burn injuries represent a significant public health problem and may result in pathological scarring with functional, aesthetic, and psychosocial impacts. Proper assessment of these scars is essential for monitoring scar progression and supporting therapeutic decision-making. This scoping review aimed to identify and map the instruments available in the literature for the clinical assessment of scars in burn patients. The study was conducted in accordance with the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines and reported following the PRISMA-ScR checklist. Searches were performed in the BVS, MEDLINE (via PubMed), and Google Scholar databases, with no time restrictions. After the selection process, 22 studies were included. Subjective clinical scales such as the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS), the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS), and the modified Vancouver Scar Scale (mVSS) were identified, along with self-reported instruments and objective methods based on biomechanical, optical, and imaging technologies. The findings indicate that no single tool encompasses all dimensions of the scarring process, highlighting the need for a multimodal approach to achieve a more comprehensive and accurate scar assessment.
