Women deprived of liberty: foundations of humanistic theory

Abstract

Introduction: Women deprived of their liberty face challenges, including precarious living conditions and limitations in access to essential services such as health and education. The implementation of reintegration policies and support programs is fundamental to facilitating recovery and social reintegration, contributing to overcoming the cycle of violence and exclusion. Objective: To identify the weaknesses in nursing care for women deprived of their liberty. Method: This is an integrative review study, in which searches were conducted in the LILACS, BVS, BDENF, and Medline databases using the descriptors: Nursing Care; Person Deprived of Liberty; Nursing Theory. Studies addressing the nursing demand in the female prison system were analyzed. Results: Most of the studies found point to the challenges that the nursing team faces in providing adequate care. Among these obstacles, the following stand out: structural inadequacy, scarcity of materials necessary for conducting examinations, weak organization in health promotion and prevention strategies, as well as factors directly influenced by the prison environment that affect these professionals. Conclusions: Due to the inadequacy in healthcare provided to incarcerated women, there is a lack of comprehensive and continuous care. Thus, it becomes imperative to conduct more in-depth studies in this context, with the aim of investigating the problems arising from this situation.
