Nursing care for patients with psychosis in Psychosocial Care Centers for Alcohol and Drugs (CAPS AD): a narrative review of the literature

The objectives of this study are to analyze nursing care for patients who have mental disorders due to alcohol and drug use. And to review the concepts of mental health and its historical path, in addition to the main advances they had after psychiatric reform. The methodology used was a narrative review of the literature based on literature searches through databases such as Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature (LILACS), Virtual Health Library (VHL) and National Library of Medicine (PUBMED) and an academic search engine (Google Scholar). The inclusion criteria used were limited research in the years 2013 to 2025, which are made available free of charge and provided by the databases, in addition to being in Portuguese and English, which address the proposed theme. And the exclusion criteria are to remove all studies that do not fit the inclusion criteria. The results that were exposed are from research that connects and shows the historical path of mental health in addition to its imposition in the psychiatric reform that changed the ways that health professionals should treat their patients, especially humanized care. In this way, the nursing professional becomes the protagonist in welcoming, especially patients who are under psychosis or have psychosis due to the use of licit and licit substances such as alcohol and drugs. Thus, this research seeks to promote and place the nursing professional as the main protagonist in the access to humanized care for patients who have psychosis and are hospitalized or notified to CAPS AD.
