Abstract

The present article addresses the theme of psychodiagnosis and neurocognitive alterations in the elderly. The research seeks to contemplate diagnostic concepts aimed at cognitive disorders, whether in neurodegenerative processes or cognitive conditions. The theoretical framework is based on the works of Dalgalarrondo (2019), Fellipe (2014), and Hutz et al. (2016). It discusses the criteria for identifying neurocognitive disorders and their causes, clinical interviews with the elderly, auxiliary elements in the assessment of executive functions, and the tests and instruments that assist in the investigation of diagnostic hypotheses. The study's results indicate that there is no single cause in the diagnosis of neurodegenerative disorders, involving factors ranging from genetic elements to environmental factors. Furthermore, it points out new diagnostic concepts for cognitive disorders. An empirical perspective study is conducted through the analysis of the film "Still Alice," whose central narrative tells the story of a woman diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and the progression of the condition. The study concludes with an interview conducted with a caregiver and informant of an Alzheimer's patient, highlighting the reality of care and the necessary measures for elderly subjects affected by neurodegenerative disorders.
